From the Naples Museum (Pictures By Daniel Stiles): Ancient Roman Ivory carvings from Pompeii. Circa Pre- 79 A.D. Found buried and preserved in the ash of Mt. Vesuvius.

Bracelet designed and carved by Scott Easterling: Scott designed this piece from an African Money Bracelet. He shaped the raw tusk and proportionally cut it diagonally to fit his wrist. His jeweler did the silver work.

Gorget designed by Scott Easterling: A gorget is one of the last vestiges of suit armor. Strictly symbolic/ceremonial now, it's worn near the throat or just below it, on the upper chest. Some militaries still use it on their dress uniforms, but the US stopped quite a while ago.
Starting with the raw ivory block and shaping it down, this piece is really starting to look great! Scott is currently working on this piece in Balad, Iraq. Scott is an Officer in the US Army. When he gets back home in August of 2009, he will be adding the finishing touches to this piece.  Thanks for your service to our country Scott!

Ivory Jewelry designed by Scott Easterling

From the British Museum in London: Lioness attacking an Ethiopian Boy in a Papyrus Grove: From the last quarter of the 8th century BC (2800 years ago) 4 inch Ivory overlaid with gold, and encrusted with Lapiz Lazuli and Cornelian.  This ivory was found, with others, in the palace of Assurnasirpal at Nimrud. It is one of a pair, thought to have decorated a piece of furniture. Phoenician and Syrian ivories were exported and found over a large area. This exquisite ornament is one of the finest examples of Phoenician worksmanship, and is unusual in it's naturalistic rendering of a narrative scene.
